Actualités : Cap Ferret in eco-tourism mode: Visiting responsibly and respecting the environment

The Arcachon Basin is one of the natural gems of the southwest of France, and Cap Ferret is undoubtedly its highlight. With its preserved landscapes, pristine beaches, and picturesque villages, the region attracts thousands of visitors each year. However, due to the influx of tourists, it has become essential to rethink the way we travel and respect the local environment.

Traveling differently: prioritize eco-friendly transportation

One of the first steps for an eco-responsible trip is to reduce your carbon footprint.

Biking: Cap Ferret is the perfect place for cycling. Hop on a bike to explore the peninsula at your own pace, along the coast or through the pine forests. This way, you can enjoy the scenery without noise or pollution, while respecting the local ecosystem. Our campsite offers bike rentals, perfect for you!

Public transportation: If you prefer not to drive, there are several public transportation options serving the Arcachon Basin, including buses connecting the city of Arcachon to Cap Ferret. It's a simple and economical way to get around while reducing your ecological impact.

The maritime shuttle: A unique way to explore the Basin is by taking the maritime shuttle between Arcachon and Cap Ferret. This environmentally-friendly mode of transport allows you to enjoy a spectacular view while reducing your carbon footprint.

Staying in eco-responsible accommodations

For a sustainable stay, choosing the right accommodation is crucial. Our campsite, Aux Couleurs du Ferret, adopts eco-friendly practices and contributes to environmental preservation. We received the ECOLABEL certification in 2022, and it was renewed in 2024.

Enjoying eco-friendly activities

Cap Ferret offers a wide range of activities to enjoy on-site, and it's possible to experience all these wonders without harming the environment. Here are some nature-friendly activity ideas:

Hiking: Explore the trails of Cap Ferret and its surroundings on foot, whether to discover the Pilat Dune or to explore the pine forests. These hikes will immerse you in breathtaking landscapes while respecting the local flora and fauna.

Kayaking or paddleboarding: Explore the Arcachon Basin by renting a kayak or a paddleboard. These water activities are especially eco-friendly because they produce no noise pollution or greenhouse gases. Paddling while observing birds, shells, and the unique scenery of the Basin is an experience you shouldn't miss.

Supporting local and sustainable consumption

Another simple but effective way to travel responsibly is to support local producers and businesses.

Local markets: Cap Ferret is full of markets where you can buy fresh, local products. Opt for seasonal products and those from organic farming, which respect both the environment and traditional know-how. Don't miss the Claouey market or the Ferret market, where you'll find oysters from the Basin, cheese, wine, and many other local specialties.

Respecting local fauna and flora

Finally, for truly eco-friendly tourism, it's essential to respect the nature around you.

Leave no trace: Whether on beaches, in forests, or along bike paths, make sure to pick up your waste and leave no trace of your passage. Respecting natural spaces also means preserving local flora and fauna. Preserve sensitive areas: Certain areas of Cap Ferret, such as the marshes and dunes, are particularly fragile. Be sure not to disturb the local wildlife, especially migratory birds and marine species. For example, avoid disturbing oysters and other shellfish by walking in oyster parks.

Cap Ferret and the Arcachon Basin are places of rare beauty, but this natural wealth needs to be protected. By adopting more responsible and eco-friendly travel practices, you can enjoy this beautiful region while preserving its landscapes and biodiversity for future generations.
